The cattle egret is a bird that is as common in the south as saying Ya'all.
They are everywhere amongst the cattle grazing out on the land. Get this: they're actually globe-trotting adventurers. So, back in the day, these egrets were chilling in Asia, Africa, and Europe, just doing their thing. But in the 20th century, they got this wild idea to check out the Americas. The theory is that cattle egrets likely hitched a ride with a hurricane or a similar storm system to make their incredible journey across the Atlantic Ocean. This isn't as wild as it sounds – birds often get caught up in strong winds of massive storm systems, which can then carry them over long distances.
